The Band Scale Patterns are a spiral curriculum that not only introduces a new key but are designed to build the less technical musical skills. Customize your curriculum by using only the keys you need for your program. 

• Learning the Notes: Each Pattern has a fingering worksheet on the back and the Patterns include note names and solfège markings for the first 5 notes. They also include the first 5 notes in broken 3rds, a range builder for the top 3 notes and a 1 octave scale in half notes and quarter notes.

• Aural Perception: 4 blank measures are included for “listening skills” that can be used with increasing difficulty from dictating rhythm to dictating chords and melodies. I recommend doing just 1 measure of dictation per day.

• Improvisation: These Patterns include the major pentatonic scale in each key to use to introduce improvising using your choice of pre-recorded backing tracks. Start simple, one pitch is all you need, and model on an instrument you are comfortable with. I like to trade 2's or 4's with volunteers.
